PxL Associates Limited - www.pxlassocaites.co.uk launched 20-Jan-2004.

PxL Associates is an insurance product design and sales company. PxL sells its package of Payment and Income Protection, Buildings, Contents, Life and Critical Illness insurance products through a nationwide network of independent financial advisors, mortgage brokers and other sales agents. PxL once distributed an originally CD-ROM based computer program and a variety of spreadsheets by post and later on their temporary web site for sales agents to use in calculating insurance premiums. Whenever insurers changed their premium rates PxL had to re-issue the software and spreadsheets and then notify sales agents by post to download the new software. All application forms were paper based and had to be sent by Fax or post. This was an administratively intensive business model which struggled to keep pace with change and was expensive to run. Additionally sales agents who are self-employed or independant businesses were discouraged from attempting to sell PxL's products due to the length of time it takes to download the computer programs off the internet. Camdaw was challenged with designing a web site which would (in summary):

  • Provide printable premium calculation reports for the full product range enabling agents and customers to compare the costs and conditions of several competing products
  • Provide the ability to submit on-line electronic application forms allowing paperless applications
  • Allow instant and scheduled updating of premium rates
  • Provide sales agents with a facility to keep their own database of client contact information, details of supplied premium calculation reports and electronic application forms submitted on behalf of clients
  • Provide a method of sending and receiving secure encrypted electronic messages
  • Provide a fast user experience regardless of the type of internet connection the sales agent has
  • Be secure as the web site collects client financial and medical details
  • Provide highly dependable data storage
  • Provide appropriate on-line access to client and sales information to authorised people including compliance auditors

The facility for a compliance auditor to monitor client information and application forms on-line from their own office removes the time and cost of travel to sales agents offices nationwide. This is expected to yield a large operational cost saving when new FSA compliance rules come into effect.
Camdaw continues to provide on going technical support and maintanence services to PxL for their web site and dedicated web and database server. In the future a subsequent project to integrate the web site with the administration organisations and in some cases underwriters internal IT systems is anticipated providing automated data and application form transfer.
